Cows that stumble and fall and get so sick they have to be put down. Farmers who are afflicted with myasthenia and children who are born disabled. The cause of these terrible fates is a bacterium, clostridium botulinum, widely known from its use in the anti-wrinkle treatment botox. But this bacterium is a real killer. This menace has been present in many German cowsheds for more than a decade. It’s not yet known how this bacterium has infected cattle herds, but it’s a fact that it’s spreading and affecting more and more farms.
