Set near Portsmouth in 1944, this film looks at the life on the British home front during World War II, and follows Martha Dacre, a widow who tries to keep her home running normal as D-Day approaches. Her two daughters, Helen and Lolly, serve in the Women's Royal Naval Service, her son is away in the Navy, and she has two servicemen, Roddy and Geoffrey, billeted in her home.
